The Westgate Centre is a proposed redevelopment of an existing property in Burlington, Ontario. The subject property consists of a nondescript and faltering two-storey mall which is at odds with its prime location at the intersection of two major arterial roads in the city. The proposed redevelopment looks to address this problem with an extensive renovation of the mall level at grade, a conversion of the existing upper level of the mall to residential lofts and construction of a new twelve storey condominium building with retail on the ground floor. The intensification of the site will take advantage of existing infrastructure, particularly public transit along the two arterial roads and proximity to the commuter train station just to the east of the site. The project will also provide an improved urban streetscape along Plains Road East as well as make the mall a more viable and convenient service for the adjoining residential community.
